Blood measurements
Blood glucose levels were determined using a glucose meter (Beijing Yicheng JSP-7, China). Serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activities were measured using their respective assay kits from Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute. Serum thyroxin (T4) levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits (Hengyuan Biological Technology Co., Ltd., Shanghai, China).
Glucose tolerance test
A glucose tolerance test (GTT) was performed to assess glucose homeostasis by evaluating the effectiveness of the clearance of the glucose load administrated by oral gavage. At 14?weeks, mice were orally administrated D-glucose (2?g/kg) in sterilized 0.9% NaCl after overnight fasting, and glucose were measured before and 15, 30, 45, 75, and 105?min after glucose loading.
