馬鼻疽(Glanders)是馬、騾、驢等單蹄動(dòng)物的一種高度接觸性的傳染病，人也可以感染。以在鼻腔、喉頭、氣管粘膜或皮膚上形成鼻疽結(jié)節(jié)、潰瘍和瘢痕，在肺、淋巴結(jié)或其它實(shí)質(zhì)器官發(fā)生鼻疽性結(jié)節(jié)為特征。病原為假單胞菌屬(Pseudomonas)的鼻疽桿菌(Pseudomonas mallei)。
馬鼻疽分布極為廣泛，*都有發(fā)生，法國、挪威、丹麥、英國、德國、南斯拉夫、希臘、瑞典、土耳其、美國、加拿大、伊朗、日本等國都有許多發(fā)病報(bào)道，嚴(yán)重威脅農(nóng)牧業(yè)生產(chǎn)。自*次世界大戰(zhàn)以后，美、加及大多數(shù)歐洲國家，已將鼻疽消滅或基本消滅了；1938年，只有羅馬尼亞、波蘭及前蘇聯(lián)有較重的疫情。1981年，莫桑比克、墨西哥、土耳其、敘利亞、阿富汗、印度和緬甸尚有本病發(fā)生。
我國各主要牧業(yè)區(qū)和一些農(nóng)業(yè)區(qū)均有傳染病發(fā)生，危害嚴(yán)重。經(jīng)過多年的研究，隔離飼養(yǎng)、撲殺開放性和雙陽性病畜，1981年該病檢出率僅為0.22%，1984年許多縣市已達(dá)到基本消滅標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。

Infection with the bacterium B. mallei can cause Glanders, an infectious disease that occurs primarily in horses, mules, and donkeys. Signs of glanders include the formation of nodular lesions in the lungs and ulceration of the mucous membranes in the upper
respiratory tract. The acute form results in coughing, fever, and the release of an infectious nasal discharge, followed by septicaemia and death within days. In the chronic form, nasal and subcutaneous nodules develop, eventually ulcerating. Death can occur within months, while survivors act as carriers.
Glanders is endemic in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Central and South America. It has been eradicated from North America, Australia, and most of Europe through surveillance and destruction of affected animals, and import restrictions.
